Tunnel Visions, 2025

Statement

Tunnel Visions psychoanalyzes a coming-of-age narrative through the means of papermaking techniques, the pulpy textures setting the scene of a mindscape traversing doubt and resilience.  This process of paper pulp painting recycles construction paper scraps discarded from my community, and gives new life to the material.  Since moving back home after college, I’ve found myself giving new life to a place I once thought had nothing left for me to discover.  The use of joomchi, a traditional Korean technique of wet paper felting, provides a transformation in my work which turns individual flat layers of clean-cut paper into a sculptural enmeshment of new topographies, representing the innate adaptations endured through maturing.  This amalgamation of transformed paper is constructed fiber by fiber, piece by piece, each engulfed by an overpowering emotion encountered in early adulthood.  Facing uncertainty, comparison, hopelessness, encouragement, and still holding on to potential yet to be unlocked, these seemingly endless feelings are navigated by an alter ego walking through the unknown.

    Sentiment in Sediment, 2024

    Statement

Sentiment in Sediment is a retrospective that deals with processing memory and emotions through the means of papermaking.  My creative practice is intuitive, in which I mix pigmented paper pulp and allow its sediments to settle into a sheet of paper, laying the groundwork for a memory to be recorded.  This time spent compacting paper fibers through repetitive agitation in water is dedicated to reminiscence, construal, and anticipation for what is yet to come.

    Solo Exhibition

Slanted Art Cooperative Gallery, Montrose, PA

      Down the Rabbit Hole, 2023

      Statement

This body of work traverses feelings buried deep beneath the surface.  I excavate vulnerability, telling stories of anxiety and self reflection with genderless, ageless alter egos of rabbits to represent myself and others.  Throughout the repetitive labor of papermaking and printmaking I am challenged to persistently confront my inner thoughts.  My subconscious embeds into every piece, both while I process time as the paper fibers form into a sheet, and in developing a final printmaking matrix from its initial emotion. In complicated moments that are difficult to articulate, we can navigate this journey down the rabbit hole through visual language.

      BFA Thesis Exhibition

      December 1st - 5th, 2023

Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, Alice and Horace Chandler and North Galleries, New Paltz, NY
